Dr. Andy Working in Schools
Hi there everybody, I am planning on working with some schools in the ensuing months with the goal of helping to facilitate improved teaching practices and enhancing learning for students. Most likely this would be using a workshop presentation type format with follow up as needed or requested. I have already done this type of work with several schools in the past and am interested in expanding upon some of these efforts. This is a separate initiative from my work at ABAC or my current international school teaching at RIS, and would be scheduled on a case by case basis with schools requesting the services. Please let me know outside of class if you are interested or feel your school might benefit. Or you can just comment on this post and we can discuss ideas. Thanks, Dr. Andy

We have a great group, and I feel we are really making some strides even in the first two weeks in terms of incorporating some new practices into our teaching. Please post reflections for our student engagement, week two session here, Thanks, Dr. Andy

Filming of Sessions
Hello, I would like to do some filming of some of our classes. I was wondering if there might be one or two students who have a decent movie camera and would be willing to help by filming some of the sessions and posting them on youtube. I have a site already and can give you the access information if you wish to do this. Basically, it would involve shooting some video, doing a bit of editing, and posting the work to youtube each week. The videos can be used for review, plus it will be nice to have a record of what we are discussing. Later, we can use my movie camera, if needed, however right now it is being repaired.
You would write a short reflection of about a page regarding what you learned from the video taping and this would count as your application paper. I am Ok with two or possibly three students doing this as a team effort if they wish. The one page reflections would be individual, however.
Let me know in class tonight if you are interested, and maybe bring a movie camera if possible, so we can tape some of this first session. Thanks, Dr. Andy

Announcement regarding preparation materials for classes
Hi All, there have been a few technical issues with filefactory and it is currently not working as well as it had in earlier semesters. In order to ensure everybody gets copies of materials needed for classes, we will create an e-mail list next week in class and each week materials will be sent to all students via this e-mail listing. I will ask that presenters send me a short word file each week with a summary of your presentation and I will put this on the blog to aid in reflections and recall. You should also send any reading preparations students need to do for your presentation to the e-mail list the week prior to the presentation.
Please download these materials and then delete the e-mails each week to avoid oaveloading your mailboxes. This will not be needed for some high capacity e-mail services such as gmail.
I'll go over this in class to ensure we all have the same understandings.
Thanks, Dr. Andy

Week One Questions, Concerns
Hi, today we went over the course, the syllabus, grading, expectations, and set up the classroom presentations for the rest of our course. I really feel fortunate to be working with such a terrific group, and look forward to our time together. Share any questions you may have here so we can help each other out. We did not really get into curriculum choices, but that is not a problem since the next fourteen weeks are going to be a discussion of them, so we can just let the ideas unfold week by week as we go along. I'm feeling very enthusastic that this is going to be a GREAT course! Best Wishes, Dr. Andy
Reflections Week One
Hi there, please post reflections as a comment on this post. Remember the format is a brief outline paragraph of something that had meaning or use to you, and three short examples of how you could use it in your role as an educator. Also, please feel free to comment on the reflections of your classmates! Thanks, Dr. Andy
